Weekend Getaways

We’re all about the “work hard, play hard(er)” mentality here at FH. With summer finally here, the city is getting steamy and you might be starting to experience the urge to escape into some from fresh air. This summer, get out of the concrete jungle to embrace the east coast and all it has to offer. Crank during that workweek and head out to an epic getaway location with some buddies. Get off the grid for a little for some much needed R&R and explore simple living.

Over Night

Venture out to the Adirondacks and go to Saranac Lake for some awesome fishing and boating. Then make your way to Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid for a hike and throw back a few cold ones. If you’re looking to continue your adventure, escape to Mohonk for some canoeing, paddle boarding, hiking, fishing or beach swimming. Feeling like becoming one with nature? Hit up a camp ground to pitch a tent. Or the Cobble Mountain Lodge has some epic cabins to shack up at for the weekend.

If you want a more beachy experience grab some buddies, pack up the jeep and the cooler, strap on the surfboard and head out to Montauk for a surf at Ditch Plains. While it is a bit mainstream, hit up the Surf Lodge for an "upscale" fair harbor beach experience (with great people watching).

Day Trips

Tacoaway Beach

To dig your toes into the sand for the day, take the subway to Rockaway or drive out to Long Beach. Take a breather and reflect as you walk on their boardwalk or take a dip in the ocean.

Lastly, for another change in atmosphere you can drive to Bay Shore and hop on the ferry over to Fire Island to help you get rid of your city fever.

Where to grab some grub: Growing up, a trip to Fire Island was never complete without a stop at Nicky’s Clam Bar for some lobster and clam chowder. This old seafood shack is the place to stop before heading onto the ferry or just when you’re getting off.
